A new book published by Omid Scobie is so poorly written, a reviewer has claimed artificial intelligence (AI) would “disown it”. Co-written alongside US young adult fiction author, Robin Benway, Royal Spin tells the story of a young American woman called Lauren Morgan, who leaves her press role for a job at Buckingham Palace.

The book, which will be released on February 12 on Amazon, is described in the Telegraph with the reviewer saying “nothing will surprise or impress you”.

Jessa Crispin, writes: “People have been fretting that artificial intelligence will absorb the entire history of human creativity and drown us in generic versions of novels, television and films. In the process, millions will lose their jobs.

“Well, I’m here to tell you that Omid Scobie has solved the problem. The robots can’t turn art into slop when humans have already done the job for them.”

The writer even states how Scobie, in poor taste, name-drops brands frequently.

She writes: “Instead of coming up with plot, character or decent prose, Scobie name-drops brands. Celsius, Skims, Postmates, Old Navy, Uber, Prius, Netflix, Prada, Nordstrom and BTS are all mentioned in the first chapter.”

Scobie, in a social media post to promote his book, explained that the project was a welcome break from “a crazy and chaotic number of years covering the royals” and said he and Benway had “both really enjoyed” working on the book.

The plot revolves around female protagonist Lauren Morgan, who becomes involved in a love triangle. She works as a press officer for the White House before transferring over to Buckingham Palace.

Last year it was reported Universal Television was also developing a series based on the book, with Omid serving as writer, co-creator and executive producer.

Part of the book’s description reads, “…..there are the distractions. Oscar, the disarmingly charming royal reporter she needs to keep on side. And the irresistibly charismatic Duke of Exeter, who is very much off-limits.”

The author is said to be close to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and also co-authored the 2020 book Finding Freedom, a biography of the Sussexes.
