Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are bringing an unexpected love story to Netflix.
PEOPLE confirms that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will produce an upcoming adaptation of the book The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory for the streaming service.
Meghan, 44, and Prince Harry, 41, are producing the project for their Archewell Productions hub alongside Tracy Ryerson, Deadline reported on Dec. 16.
The novel is being adapted by Tracy Oliver, who became the first Black woman to write a film that grossed over $100 million at the global box office with the hit Girls Trip in 2017. Her other credits include Little, The Sun Is Also a Star, The Blackening, First Wives Club and Harlem, with Girls Trip 2, The Blackening 2 and Deck the Y’alls, starring Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain, also in development, among other projects, the outlet said.

Guillory published The Wedding Date in 2018, and it became the first in a six-book series.
“A groomsman and his last-minute guest are about to discover if a fake date can go the distance in a fun and flirty debut novel,” a log line from the New York Times bestselling author said. “Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn’t normally do. But there’s something about Drew Nichols that’s too hard to resist.”
The announcement about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s involvement in The Wedding Date follows the August news that they were extending their creative partnership with Netflix through Archewell Productions, unveiling a multi-year, first-look deal for film and television projects.

“We’re proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As ever brand,” Meghan said in a statement then. “My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.”
That update came following wide reports in July that Harry and Meghan’s initial $100 million deal with Netflix would not be renewed when it expired in September. At the time, a Hollywood insider told PEOPLE that the move reflected a broader shift in Netflix’s business strategy, with former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground production company similarly transitioning to a first-look deal.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have produced several documentaries since they teamed up with the streamer in 2020, and their 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan remains Netflix’s most-watched documentary debut to date.
The couple has also produced Live to Lead (2022), Heart of Invictus (2023) and Polo (2024), plus her lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, featuring two seasons and a holiday special, and Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, in 2025.
Their adaptation of the bestselling novel, Meet Me at the Lake, was announced in 2023 and is also still in the works.
