Atlanta/Chicago – The life and death of rapper Dayvon Daquan Bennett, known by his stage name King Von, continues to shake the hip-hop world and the U.S. legal system years after that fateful night in November 2020. New footage surfacing from Von’s final moments has dramatically shifted the debate around self-defense, while simultaneously igniting a chain of violent events that led to the FBI’s pursuit and federal charging of rapper Lil Durk in late 2024.
The Fateful Night: The Truth Behind the Fiery Confrontation
In the early hours of November 6, 2020, just one week after his debut album Welcome to O Block successfully launched (peaking at number 5 on the Billboard 200), King Von was in Atlanta. A fatal encounter occurred outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge.
Though beef between Von’s crew and rapper Quando Rondo’s entourage had simmered online for some time, there had been no direct confrontation. That night, Von and his entourage of about 10–15 people spotted Quando Rondo’s SUV parked nearby.
According to later surveillance footage and analysis, the brawl erupted violently between 2:15 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Von, who was unarmed and wearing a distinctive jacket, was seen rushing and attacking Quando Rondo first, landing multiple blows to his head and body. Immediately after, Von’s crew jumped in, turning the incident into a straight mob beating.
As the scuffle spilled into the street, Timothy “Lil Tim” Leeks, a member of Quando Rondo’s camp, exited a vehicle. According to ballistics reports, Lil Tim fired 4 to 6 rounds. Von was hit six times, including three fatal shots to the chest and torso, causing him to die from massive internal bleeding and organ failure at Grady Memorial Hospital at 3:17 a.m. The entire incident, from the first punch thrown to the last shot fired, unfolded in less than 10 minutes.
The Shock Ruling: Self-Defense and the Chilling Aftermath

Though Lil Tim was charged with felony murder and posted a $100,000 bond in March 2021, the case took a stunning turn. In August 2023, the Fulton County District Attorney dropped all charges against Lil Tim, citing video evidence of self-defense which showed King Von initiating the assault.
However, the newly leaked footage revealed another chilling detail. After Lil Tim was shot and on the ground, a member of King Von’s crew advanced, aiming a gun at his head for an execution-style shot, but the weapon malfunctioned. This detail later became critical in subsequent legal proceedings.
The Rise of the Storyteller
King Von (born 1994) grew up amid violence in the Robert Taylor homes, later known as O-Block (Parkway Gardens) on Chicago’s South Side. He faced multiple arrests starting at age 13, mainly for robbery and gun possession. It was during one of his juvenile sentences (including a three-year stint for being a felon with a weapon at age 16) that Von began taking rap seriously.
After walking free from a first-degree murder charge in 2017 (due to witness issues), Von, with the support of Lil Durk, exploded in 2018 with the hit “Crazy Story,” which garnered 5 million views in one week and later went platinum. Von was hailed by critics as the “Quentin Tarantino of Rap” for his meticulous, cold-blooded, and authentic street narrative style.
Despite his short career, Von’s musical legacy is immense: 9x platinum plaques, over 6 billion streams, and every major project hitting the Billboard Top 15, all achieved with zero mainstream radio play.
The Ripple Effect: Lil Durk Targeted by the FBI
King Von’s death was not just a personal tragedy but a catalyst for a chain of severe violence and legal action.
On October 24, 2024, a bombshell dropped when federal agents arrested Lil Durk at a private terminal at Miami Opa-Locka Executive Airport as he was boarding a private jet to Dubai. Durk and five other members were charged with conspiracy to commit murder for hire connected to the August 2022 killing of Savia “Lul Pab” Robinson (Quando Rondo’s cousin) in Los Angeles.
Federal prosecutors alleged that King Von’s death lit the fuse. Durk was accused of allegedly putting a “green light” on anyone connected to Quando Rondo or NBA Young Boy’s 4KT. Key evidence included Durk’s corporate AMX card used to book flights for suspects, a $20,000 cash transfer to a shooter two days after the murder, and a 45-second jail call where Durk allegedly said: “Tell Von I got that for him.”
Current Status and Enduring Legacy
As of December 2025, Lil Durk remains detained at MCC Chicago. His estimated $8 million in assets, including his mansion and corporate accounts, have been frozen under asset forfeiture. His trial date is set for October 2025.
Meanwhile, King Von continues to exert massive influence. Posthumous albums, including What It Means to Be King (2022) and Grandson (2023), topped charts. A controversial documentary/album hybrid, Von: The Final Chapter, even used cleaned-up bodycam snippets as transitions between tracks, sparking debate among fans.
However, the tension between Von’s artistic fame and his street reality was symbolically demonstrated when his mural in O-Block was taken down in November 2024 due to gang-related safety concerns.
King Von achieved in 26 years what most artists never do in 50: he turned America’s most dangerous block into literature, and died at the exact moment his legend grew too big to ever be truly killed. The viral footage forces the public to revisit the reality: a promising young man charged into a fight he thought he could win with his hands, only to catch a bullet that cared nothing for his platinum plaques or Billboard debut.
King Von’s stare remains, like his legend: intense, unforgettable, and dangerous.
