The Princess of Wales was praised by a body language expert who decoded her move after a fan appeared to breach royal protocol during their meeting in Wales. Princess Catherine joined her husband, Prince William, on a visit to Powys to celebrate the community ahead of St David’s Day.

While visiting Powys, the royal couple spoke to crowds who had gathered to see them. A man approached the future Queen and asked for an autograph, but the princess was forced to politely decline the offer. Instead, she apologised, and they shared a handshake.

Body language expert Darren Stanton analysed the exchange and said Catherine showed clear signs of genuine happiness and “didn’t make it an issue”.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Ms Stanton said: “She [Princess Catherine] is a real master now in connecting with people very quickly.

“[Catherine] appreciates that many have stood in the wind and the rain to meet her and William.”

The expert did praise the way the princess handled the situation, saying: “The man in the crowd was poised with his paper and pen.

“She qualified her actions by legitimating it by saying we’re not allowed to sign things.”

He added: “She also immediately reached for his hand and said sorry, which appeased him.

“Then she followed that up with a hug. She didn’t make it an issue.

“It was a masterclass in overcoming a potentially awkward situation with zero fuss and drama.”

Mr Stanton said it’s “clear” that Catherine “cares” about people and said her behaviour left the situation as a “win”.

He said: “Her smile was genuine and authentic and his happy expression was also genuine.”

During their visit, the future King and Queen made an unscheduled stop to meet well-wishers standing in heavy rain.
