Just as she was beginning her new life as a newlywed… tragedy claimed the life of the 25-year-old woman: Her family has spoken out for the first time about their devastating loss
The family of a newlywed killed in a Cairns car crash, allegedly caused by a man under the influence and in a stolen car, has spoken of the “horrific loss”.
Savannah Spence, 25, was killed on Wednesday in a head-on collision.

Spence had recently moved to Cairns from the Gold Coast with new husband Lachie and her family said the couple were only just beginning the next chapter of their lives together.
“We are beyond devastated by her passing. Savannah was beautiful inside and out, with a smile that lit up every room,” the family said in a statement.
“She had an incredible sense of humour, a kind and caring heart, and was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
“She has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.”
The carnage allegedly caused by a 36-year-old man under the influence, in a stolen car who left the scene. 9News
They also thanked the Cairns community, saying they were deeply touched by a vigil that had been organised for Sunday.
“So just banding together as a community grieving together as a community keeping her family in mind as well,” vigil organiser Shinae West told 9News.
The accused, Jake Edward Warn, 36, allegedly tried to steal two police officers’ guns while he was under guard in hospital following the crash.
He’s been charged with manslaughter but police in court said they would be asking for the charge to be upgraded to murder.
