utspoken radio host Howard Stern didn’t hold back when weighing in on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, branding the royal couple “whiny” and calling the show “painful” to endure.

In a clip from 2022, Howard criticised the couple’s highly-publicised six-part series, which debuted on December 8 of that year. It came after Harry and Meghan quit their senior royal duties in 2020.

While millions tuned in to hear the Duke and Duchess of Sussex share their side of their royal exit and experience in the monarchy, Howard had a much different reaction.

Howard Stern criticises Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Netflix series

“It’s been painful,” Howard said on The Howard Stern Show, as reported by Variety. “I wouldn’t stay with it. But my wife wants to watch it, so, you know, we have shows we watch. But they come off like such whiny [bleep]. I gotta tell you, man, I just don’t get it.”

He did express sympathy for Prince Harry’s tragic past and loss of his mother, Princess Diana. However, he added that empathy only went so far.

He added: “When those two start whining about ‘wah wah wah, they don’t like me,’ and she [Meghan] wants to be beloved in this country. It’s just very weird to watch two people who keep screaming, ‘We wanted our privacy.’”

Howard also noted that while Harry and Meghan plead for privacy, they simultaneously release details about their home life, comparing the series to “the Kardashians, except boring”.

He also questioned their motivations, wondering aloud whether rehashing personal pain had now become their full-time career.

The radio host said the couple’s privileged royal background made it difficult for audiences to connect with their struggles, adding: “It looks pretty terrific to me.”

In perhaps his most biting remark, Howard even predicted the Sussexes’ marriage might not last.

“I think he’s eventually not gonna dig her. I’m telling you,” he told his listeners.

Harry and Meghan’s partnership with Netflix

Despite the controversy surrounding their initial Netflix debut, Harry and Meghan remain in business with the streamer.

Just last week, the Duchess of Sussex unveiled the first trailer for her upcoming holiday special of her cooking and lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, set to premiere December 3.

The Montecito-filmed festive special promises “a magical holiday celebration” featuring cooking, gift-making, and decorating. A statement from Archewell Productions described it as “a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy”.

Guests set to appear include Meghan’s close friends Kelly McKee Zajfen and Lindsay Roth, as well as chef Tom Colicchio, hospitality expert Will Guidara, and tennis star Naomi Osaka, who previously credited Meghan for privately supporting her during her mental health break in 2021.

Prince Harry also makes a brief cameo in the trailer, sharing a kiss with Meghan in the kitchen. This marks his first on-screen appearance since With Love, Meghan season one, which aired in March.

The trailer also includes a peek at a handwritten note from Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to Santa. Painted onto a mug, the message reads: “We have been good.” It is signed, “XO Archie & Lili”.
