A mum has been killed after being shot multiple times as gunmen opened fire on the car containing her baby and a male passenger.

The vehicle was shot 50 times and later crashed with the driver being severely injured at the wheel, during the incident yesterday (February 4) on Chicago’s South Side in the United States.

Chicago Police Department confirm a 26-year-old woman and 27-year-old man were in the vehicle in the 7900-block of South May Street in Gresham at 1:25pm.

The baby, who was in the car seat in the back, miraculously escaped the bullet-ridden car without injury.

The woman suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Little Company of Mary Hospital in critical condition. Her godfather Kirk Bell confirmed the woman, Gabryel Ayers, had passed away.

Bell said: “What’s the purpose of shooting at a car when you know there’s a child in the car? That doesn’t make any sense. It could be a lot of other people who’s lost their life here today.”

He continued: “You know, there’s a baby in the car. These animals have no value on life. This is nothing to them. They need to clean this city up.

“They need to. There’s gangs, and there’s shooting and the killing. It’s just unbelievable.”

Bell also confirmed his goddaughter’s infant girl was less than a year old and was unharmed despite the number of bullets shot at the car.

Police have not made any arrests in connection with the shooting as alleged footage of the shooting shows multiple gunman shooting at the vehicle.
