Sara shared live on Radio 2: “I’ve got to say, Gethin Jones my lovely mate off the telly, he’s a proper mate and he was just alongside me for the last five miles and I’ve just had my music on and I’m just digging deep and I just kept going ‘tell them Geth.’

“Because, I couldn’t really talk to people on the side of the road, I was just trying to dig deep and keep going so I’d go ‘tell them Geth’ and he’d be like ‘thanks for coming out, she’s doing well, I like your dog madam’ and basically just talking to the crowd.

“So, thank you to him, and he just kept pace with me and he didn’t mind me completely ignoring him. He was just there next to us, by my side. So, thanks to Gethin he’s a proper mate. That really helped and we’ve just got this five miles in the dark and the rain.”

The host then joked that everyone needed a wingman, and “imagine your wingman is Gethin Jones. You’ve exceeded everything there.”

Sara joked: “The ladies faces lit up along the side of the road when they clocked him.”

Gethin posted on Instagram, “@djsaracox is absolutely digging in right now – what’s keeping her going is YOUR support.”

Sara will be continuing her journey tomorrow, Thursday, November 13, where she will be running, jogging and walking across Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

This means that she’ll see the sweeping moorland, steep ridges, and the rolling hills of northern England, with the support of towns, villages, and Radio 2 listeners along the way.

Sara started her challenge on Monday, November 10, in the Kielder Forest on the Scottish borders, and is aiming to finish in Pudsey in Leeds on the afternoon of Friday, November 14.

This is where she’ll be finishing her symbolic journey having carried Pudsey from border to heartland.
