Meghan Markle is pulling back the curtain on her marriage to Prince Harry.
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, released Nov. 19, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, opens up about how she’s learned to steady herself amid years in the spotlight. “I think my boundaries became stronger,” she said. “You find different ways to protect yourself.”
The spotlight then falls on Harry, whom she affectionately calls “H.”
“He loves me so boldly, fully, and he also has a different perspective because he sees media that I wouldn’t,” she said. “No one in the world loves me more than him, so I know he’s always going to make sure that he has my back.”
Part of her husband’s allure, Meghan said, is that he is “someone who just has this childlike wonder and playfulness.”
“I was so drawn to that, and he brought that out in me,” she added. “That’s translated into every part of our life. Even in business, I want us to play and have fun and explore and be creative.”

That playfulness has extended to her professional life as well, Meghan said, noting that she loves working from home on her lifestyle brand, As ever, so she can be close to the couple’s children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4. She’s also learned to embrace the work-life balance as she and Harry have recently stepped out at public events like Paris Fashion Week and Hollywood galas.
“I love being able to do both,” Meghan said. “To play in the sandbox with my kids and to play in the front row at a show. I think the moment that you start making all of your personal decisions based on external judgment, then you lose your authenticity.”
The Duchess of Sussex graced the cover of the magazine’s Art Issue. The cover shot shows her sporting a black suit, with a plunging neckline and a tie around her waist. Meghan, sporting a no-makeup look, directly faces the camera as she poses on a stool.
The new photos and interview come as Meghan prepares for the premiere of the holiday episode of With Love, Meghan, hitting Netflix on Dec. 3. The trailer for With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration dropped on Nov. 19, giving a glimpse of what to expect, including a Prince Harry cameo, crafts and more. Meghan is joined in the episode by tennis star Naomi Osaka, chef and Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio, hospitality expert Will Guidara, philanthropist and close friend Kelly McKee Zajfen and her longtime friend and author-producer Lindsay Roth.
The special also lands as Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As ever, rolls out its first holiday collection, featuring candles, fruit spreads and honey — several of which appear in the trailer.
Meghan’s last magazine interview was for PEOPLE in March as she launched As ever and With Love, Meghan — amidst public scrutiny.
“There are tons of twists and turns — even with the name,” she said, referring to trademark issues and switching her lifestyle brand from American Riviera Orchard to As ever. “I was figuring it out in real time.”
The Duchess of Sussex added that the experience was defined by growth. “I appreciate everyone who gave me the grace to make mistakes and figure it out and also to be forgiving with myself through that. It’s a learning curve,” she said.

She also opened up about how her husband is loving seeing her dive back into the entrepreneurial world.
“My husband met me when I had The Tig, and I see this spark in his eye when he sees me doing the thing that I was doing when he first met me,” she said,
“It’s almost like a honeymoon period again,” she added, “because it’s exactly how it was in the beginning when he’d watch me scribbling away, writing newsletters, fine-tuning edits and just really being in the details of it. I think he loves watching as much as I love doing that creative process. It’s just been fun. This is who I’ve always been.”
