Police officers were conducting a welfare check when they found Travis Eugene Grant, 41, Kimberly Michelle Grant, 42, and Sharon Harwood Grant, 66, all dead from gunshot wounds.

Investigators immediately launched a search for Grant who they realized was missing, and tracked her down to a hotel in Gaitlinburg, Tennessee, just before 6am on Friday where she was found with Loving.

The pair, who are both from Buncombe County, were arrested and are due to be extradited back to North Carolina after a hearing on Monday.

Their relationship and any motive is unclear at this time, officials have said.

“They’re charged with a Class A Felony, that has potential in the state of North Carolina, either the death penalty or life imprisonment,” Major John Ledford with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said during a press conference.

Despite being just 16 years old, Grant will be tried as an adult due to the severity of her alleged crimes.

Loving is in custody with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office while Grant is at the Sevier County Juvenile Detention Center.

Officials confirmed Grant “is the daughter of the couple and the granddaughter of the older deceased person.”

According to court records seen by ABC News affiliate WLOS, Grant was adopted by Travis in 2019 who has been married twice before including to Kimberly who he divorced in 2004.

An investigation into the horrifying triple murder is ongoing as cops work to establish a motive.

Concerned relatives had requested officers conduct a welfare check after they did not hear from the family.

Officers carried out multiple checks but previously did not have enough evidence to conduct a forced entry at the property until they visited again on Thursday.

It is not known how long Grant and Loving were in Tennessee or when the shooting took place.

“We would like to express our condolences to the family of these victims,” said Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller.

“We would also like to share our gratitude for our team of Patrol Deputies, Detectives, Crime Scene Investigators, and those leading these teams.

“Most of them have not slept because they have focused on nothing but arriving at this outcome that will hopefully bring closure to those impacted by this tragedy.”
