A BONE found near the home of Nancy Guthrie has been found to predate her disappearance by 750 years, as authorities plead with civilian searchers to leave the investigation to law enforcement.
The discovery sent social media sleuths into a frenzy, with many assuming a livestreamer had potentially cracked the case of Guthrie, who was snatched from her affluent home in Tucson nearly four months ago.

YouTuber Alec Wysopal was making rounds through the baking desert terrain near Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills area on May 7 when he stumbled upon a bone.
Wysopal, who was livestreaming to his nearly 10,000 subscribers, said on camera, “Oh, what is that? That’s a bone… It looks like a leg bone.”
The streamer called the police, who quickly arrived on the scene and collected the bone.
At the time, Tucson police told The U.S. Sun that the finding was not being looked at as a criminal investigation.
Nancy Guthrie theory debunked by expert as search hits 100-day milestone
Tucson police said the bone was determined to be human, but the probe would be a “prehistoric anthropological investigation.”
James Watson, the curator of bioarchaeology at the Arizona State Museum, told The New York Times that the bone Wysopal found dated to between 650 and 1250 AD.
Watson said during that time, the Hohokam people tended farms and lived in the area.
The expert on prehistoric remains said Wysopal unintentionally wandered onto a Native American archaeological site.
“Whether it’s Nancy Guthrie or an ancient individual, you shouldn’t be poking at them with a stick,” Watson told the outlet.
“It’s common decency. Would you do that with your grandmother’s remains?”
Wysopal told The New York Times that he was unaware he had stepped onto an ancient burial site, but clarified that had he known, he would have stayed away from the area.
The recent incident is the latest case of livestreamers, podcasters, and social media influencers taking matters into their own hands in an attempt to solve the case of Guthrie’s disappearance.
Some of the amateur sleuths have gone to extreme lengths, including stalking the home of Guthrie’s daughter Annie and her son-in-law Tommaso Cioni, and spreading misinformation online that her relatives were potentially behind her disappearance.
The name of Cioni’s former bandmate, Dominic Evans, was also dragged into the mix by true-crime influencers.

Evans’ criminal history was broadcast on social media, while other streamers even falsely claimed his facial features closely resembled those of the masked suspect caught outside Guthrie’s home on the night of the kidnapping.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos urged streamers and civilian searchers to allow law enforcement to do its job.
“We appreciate their concern and we all want to find Nancy – but this work is best left to professionals,” Nanos told The New York Times in a statement.
The search for Guthrie has surpassed the 100- day mark as updates on her disappearance by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, the leading police agency, have gone radio silent.
The puzzling investigation has even led to clashes between the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI director, Kash Patel.
Patel slammed the police agency for what he claimed were missteps by Pima County in the first 48 hours of Guthrie’s disappearance.
“Here’s how these cases work: it is a state matter, it’s a state and local law enforcement matter. What we, the FBI do is say, ‘Hey, we’re here to help. What do you need? What can we do?” Patel told Fox’s Sean Hannity, calling the first 48 hours of anyone’s disappearance the “most crucial.”
The FBI director said the federal agency was kept out of the investigation for four days.
Patel went further, saying that once the FBI got involved, they obtained the Nest security camera footage from Guthrie’s front door.
The chilling footage captured a masked man ruffling Guthrie’s plants in an attempt to distort the camera lens before ultimately yanking the device from its mount.
“That’s why you have that image, because the FBI worked with Google to put that image out,” Patel said.
He also criticized Nanos for his decision to send the DNA sample collected from Guthrie’s home to a private lab in Florida instead of using the FBI’s lab in Quantico, Virginia, which Pael called “the best in the country.”
“We were saying, ‘We’ll process it.’ I launched hundreds of agents and intel staff to Phoenix and Tucson just for this case, just to be on standby, just to do the canvassing and we said we’ll take the DNA,” Patel added.
“Again, it’s a state and local matter, so it’s their call on where to send the DNA.
“What we can do is continue to offer support. We would have analyzed it within days and maybe gotten better information or more information.
“Our lab’s just better than any other private lab out there. And we didn’t get a chance to do that. I understand everybody’s frustration.”
In a statement, Sheriff Nanos denied Patel’s claims and said his office notified the FBI Task Force, whose officers were at the scene with Pima County officials.
“The FBI was promptly notified by both our department and the Guthrie family,” Nanos said.
