Nine thugs were jailed for over 130 years for the attack on a rival group in July 2024.

CCTV shows the five victims sitting in a parked car on a residential street when two vehicles ram into it, smashing it across the pavement and into a wall.

The attackers emerged from two cars and began smashing the windows and pelting trapped victims with machetes and bats as they desperately tried to escape.

The crashed vehicles trapped the car against a wall leaving the victims helpless as a masked gunman opened fire at point blank range.

The incident is covered by a new Channel 5 documentary series Major Crimes Unit which follows West Midlands Police’s investigation into the attack.

Once the attackers fled, a trapped victim drove the injured group to Walsall Manor Hospital.

The attack was declared a major incident and handed over to the Major Crime Unit, who suspected it was a planned ambush by a rival gang.

The victims suffered serious and life-changing slash and gun wounds.

One victim was put in an induced coma and when he woke up, told police he recognised some of the attackers voices with one shouting “Monkey Amar” and another saying “It’s me, Hezar”.

He identified the voices as Amar Shazhad and Hezar Iyaiz who were both later convicted.

Eight of 27 names given to police were charged after police used phone tracking to establish their movements, with the ninth attacker later charged.

Rosie Downes, from the Major Crimes Unit CCTV team explained in the new Channel 5 doc, said: “23 minutes past 11, we’ve got the victims’ car parking up.

“It starts with the headlights coming across and then the two vehicles crashing into the victims’ car.

“You can see here one of the victims trying desperately to get out but the car is trapped between the wall. So as he’s trying to open the door, it’s just not possible.

“You can see multiple weapons. Gunman is hiding in the shadows just here as he then comes round, is masked up, hooded up.

“It’s going to be quite difficult to identify who that person is,” she continued.

“You can see this is the gun, it’s like a pistol of some kind, pointing into the back of the car.”

Seven of the men pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in June last year.

The eighth man, named Umar Saddique, 29, was jailed for two years for assisting the offence.

The total combined sentence came to 118 years across the eight criminals.

The final ambush attacker named Amar Kahn, 40, was arrested three months later at Birmingham Airport and was jailed for 13 years and four months.

Khan pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a bladed article.

The five victims of the violent rival gang attack have since made a full recovery.
