In the wake of Prince Andrew losing his royal title, questions have arisen about the future of Queen Elizabeth II’s cherished corgis. Reports indicate that King Charles III is poised to reclaim custody of the dogs, named Muick and Sandy. British journalist Rob Shuter’s recent newsletter suggests that Charles believes Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, is not “capable” of providing a suitable environment for the dogs.
The king reportedly seeks a more stable home for the corgis, highlighting that they require “better judgment around them.” According to a senior courtier, King Charles is acutely aware that the late queen would never have entrusted her dogs to Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.

Following Andrew’s eviction from Royal Lodge and the stripping of his title due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein, Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming that the corgis will remain within the royal family, though details about their new arrangement were not disclosed.
King Charles made his intentions clear after taking decisive action against Andrew, stating that formal notices have been served for him to vacate Royal Lodge. This move emphasized the palace’s commitment to addressing the serious implications of ongoing controversies associated with Andrew, who has consistently denied the allegations against him. The palace’s communication underscored their empathy for the victims of abuse, reinforcing the seriousness of the situation.
As the royal family prepares for King Charles’s coronation, significant attention also surrounds how the late queen’s corgis are involved in the ceremony. During the coronation scheduled for May 6, it is reported that the dogs will watch the celebrations from a distance, alongside Ferguson, who expressed her deep connection with the animals. She even mentioned that she feels the late queen is communicating with her through the dogs.
After Elizabeth II’s passing in September 2022, the dogs were entrusted to Andrew and Ferguson, leading Ferguson to share her sentiments about the late monarch. She spoke of her ongoing connection with the corgis, suggesting they carry a piece of Queen Elizabeth’s spirit.
Ferguson, who has now adopted additional dogs, shared that her household is filled with love and care for her pets, stating that having them brings her immense joy. Her commitment to their well-being highlights the ongoing legacy of Queen Elizabeth’s profound love for her dogs, which has become a symbol of her reign. As the royal family navigates these changes, the future of Muick and Sandy remains a poignant reminder of a beloved monarch and her enduring legacy.
