Mickey Haller finally returned to the courtroom with the release of The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 on Netflix. However, this time around, he was not only representing the defendant but he was the defendant. The season was a pulse-pounding rollercoaster that truly took twists and turns, but after that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, fans are now wondering when season 5 is coming.

Thankfully, Netflix went ahead and announced The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 renewal before season 4 even made its premiere. The streamer revealed the exciting news on Jan. 28, just days ahead of the fourth season’s long-time-coming drop. Now that we have started off the year with a new Mickey Haller case, our sights are set on the next one that now involves — spoiler alert! — his sister.

While we’re still recovering from the season-ending reveal that introduced Cobie Smulders as a mystery half-sister that will play a large role in season 5. Luckily, we already have early details on when The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 begins filming that suggests it’s closer than ever!

The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 reportedly begins filming in March 2026

According to What’s on Netflix, The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 begins filming in March 2026 in Los Angeles. There isn’t an exact start date reported yet, though it’s exciting to hear that just a few weeks removed from the season 5 renewal and the season 4 drop, the cast and crew will get back to work on set to start filming the next batch of 10 episodes.

But we shouldn’t get too excited about season 5 hitting our watch lists right away. Production on the legal drama typically lasts for about five months, which would take season 5 filming to August 2026 if the March start date sticks. That would be a rather quick turnaround for Netflix to attempt to get the episodes to premiere before the end of 2026, and that’s already unlikely anyway.

Since The Lincoln Lawyer helped kick off 2026 with a bang, Netflix will likely rely on the series to once again debut in early 2027 and start the year off right. While there was a little bit more than a year in between season 3 and season 4, we should be waiting much more than a year for the release of season 5 after season 4. If the drop isn’t in February 2027, a spring release seems like a safe bet.

The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 will adapt the Michael Connelly novel Resurrection Walk, which finds Mickey teaming up with his half-brother Harry Bosch. The show’s creator, Ted Humphrey, confirmed that the series doesn’t have the rights to Bosch, but Smulders’ character Allison has “obvious parallels” to Mickey’s half-brother in the books and “[expands] the world of the show.”
