Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are ushering in a new chapter for their charitable work — one that includes their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
On Friday, Dec. 19, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that their Archewell Foundation is being renamed Archewell Philanthropies as the organization marks its fifth anniversary — a moment the couple views as both a reflection on what they’ve built and a launchpad for what comes next.
“This next chapter allows Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to broaden their global philanthropic efforts as a family, with meaningful reach and maximum impact, grounded in the same values, partnerships, and their commitment to show up and do good,” the organization said in an announcement.
The couple also describes the evolution as a family effort, with the new structure creating space for their children — Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4 — to be part of the long-term philanthropic identity they’re building together.
“After five beautiful years, the Archewell Foundation is becoming Archewell Philanthropies. This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavors as a family,” a message on their new website read.

The shift reflects a broader reframing of the Sussexes’ charitable work — positioning it as a long-term family enterprise rather than a tightly managed standalone foundation tied to their day-to-day involvement. Moving to a “philanthropies” model signals something designed to grow and evolve over time, with more flexibility and less administrative burden.
Earlier this fall, the couple also gave a rare glimpse into how they’re introducing philanthropy to their children. In November, Archie and Lilibet joined their parents as the Archewell Foundation partnered with Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles (OBKLA) to prepare meals for the local community. Photos from the event showed the siblings on the packaging line rolling balls of dough alongside their parents.

PEOPLE understands that Archewell Philanthropies will still operate within a nonprofit structure, but now through a fiscal sponsorship model — a common setup that lets charitable projects grow more easily around the world.
Under the new approach, an established 501(c)(3) will oversee the administrative side, including compliance, finances and global grantmaking. Harry and Meghan will continue to guide the mission itself, setting priorities and choosing the initiatives and partnerships they support.
This week, the Sussexes also released their 2025 Impact Report and an accompanying video highlighting the programs, communities and partners they’ve worked with over the past half-decade.
The renaming comes five years after Harry and Meghan announced their decision to step back from their senior royal roles in early 2020. As the couple charted an independent path in the U.S., they revealed plans for a new charitable vehicle named Archewell — inspired by the Greek word “arche,” meaning “source of action,” and also a nod to their then-infant son Archie.

The Archewell Foundation formally launched in late 2020, establishing the philanthropic pillar of their new life outside the royal fold. It arrived at a moment of transition: Harry and Meghan were settling into life in Montecito with their young son Archie (daughter Princess Lilibet was born in June 2021) and building the framework for their post-royal work, which included Archewell Productions and Archewell Audio alongside their charitable foundation.
From the beginning, Harry and Meghan positioned the organization as a platform centered on compassion in action — or, as they often describe it, a commitment to “show up, do good.”
Their work has focused on community support, mental health, gender equity, digital well-being and disaster relief, partnering over the past five years with groups including World Central Kitchen, The Mission Continues, Women for Afghan Women and the Center for Humane Technology.
The announcement caps off year that also saw Meghan launch her lifestyle brand, As ever, and debut her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, while Harry continued his advocacy work — including his Invictus Games — and international engagements.
