When they arrived, they found a man in his 30s clinging to life after being stabbed in his torso.
He was treated at the scene before being rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.
About 8.45pm, the man, who is yet to be formally identified, died in hospital.
A woman, also aged in her 30s, was in the unit and was assaulted, sustaining minor head injuries.
Although she has since been discharged from hospital, police have told 9News she has so far refused to cooperate with detectives.
Superintendent Andrew Garner said police had ruled out domestic violence and were turning to the public for information as they look to piece together what led up to the fatal stabbing.
“Police are working with all the witnesses and victims of the matter,” Garner said.
“It’s very traumatic for the community, for emergency services, for families.”
“You’re talking about someone’s son, a brother, a father potentially.”
Specialist police returned to the scene on Wednesday, searching under parked cars and through surrounding bushes while detectives knocked on doors.
Police confirmed they had not yet seized a weapon. No charges have been laid.
