A terrifying shooting shattered the quiet of the Laurel Hills Preserve apartment complex in Marietta, Georgia, early Monday morning, turning a residential area into a crime scene of brutal aggression.

According to police records, a 16-year-old girl became the target of a shooting while riding as a passenger in a vehicle. The witness confirmed to investigators that the gunman was none other than her ex-boyfriend. At the scene, law enforcement recovered multiple shell casings and bullet holes in two vehicles, evidence of the intensity of the attack, though fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Khalil Barnett. Following a coordinated tactical operation between the Marietta Police Department SWAT team and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, Barnett was arrested before 8:00 a.m. that same morning. He is currently being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center under warrant number 26-W-4723.

Barnett is currently facing severe legal charges, including aggravated assault with intent to murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and first-degree cruelty to children. However, the motive behind the shooting, the type of firearm used, and details regarding other passengers in the targeted vehicle remain under investigation and have not yet been disclosed by authorities.
