A serious workplace accident occurred this afternoon in Laverton North, resulting in the death of a man in his 50s. The incident took place at a construction site associated with the West Gate Tunnel project, cutting short a life during routine operations.

At approximately 2:00 PM on Monday, the victim was operating a scissor lift at a worksite on Geelong Road. While the equipment was being elevated, it came into contact with overhead high-voltage power lines. The resulting electrical discharge caused the worker to suffer fatal injuries. Despite the rapid arrival of emergency services, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The West Gate Tunnel project—a joint venture between CPB Contractors and John Holland—has suspended all site operations. A spokesperson for the joint venture confirmed that they are cooperating fully with authorities, including WorkSafe Victoria, to conduct a thorough investigation. Local police have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner to officially determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
