INVESTIGATORS SAY THE SEARCH STARTED WITH A LIE — NEW DETAILS EMERGE IN THE HEARTBREAKING CASE OF 4-YEAR-OLD JAVEAYAH HARRIS
Dashcam Video Reveals First Moments Deputies Believed Javeayah Harris Had Simply Gone Missing
Newly released dashcam footage is providing a heartbreaking look at the very beginning of the investigation into four-year-old Javeayah Harris’ reported disappearance, capturing the moment deputies believed they were searching for a missing child.
The exclusive video, obtained by WRDW News 12, shows the first responding deputy arriving at the family’s Aiken County home just before 8:50 p.m. on June 30, shortly after a 911 call reported that Javeayah had vanished while playing outside.
Deputies Treated It as a Missing Child Emergency
The footage shows officers immediately spreading across the property with flashlights, searching the yard while neighbors gathered to help.
As darkness fell, more deputies arrived and expanded the search into nearby woods and dirt roads.
Around 9 p.m., Javeayah’s father, Johmarea Harris, is seen arriving at the home and speaking with deputies while showing information from his phone. Investigators at that stage believed they were dealing with an urgent missing child case.
Search Quickly Expanded
As hours passed, the operation grew into a large-scale search involving numerous law enforcement agencies.
A command post was established at nearby Bethel Baptist Church, where officers coordinated search teams throughout the night.
By the time television crews arrived around 11 p.m., deputies were still combing the surrounding area hoping to find the little girl alive.
Investigation Took a Dramatic Turn
What began as a missing child investigation changed dramatically just days later.
Authorities announced they believed Javeayah had actually d!ed weeks before she was reported missing.
Investigators later arrested both of her parents, Michilae Herring and Johmarea Harris, charging them with homicide by child abuse after authorities said both confessed, according to arrest warrants.
Search for Evidence Continues
Investigators have since recovered partial human remains from Cedar Creek Reservoir and continue collecting evidence as the homicide investigation moves forward.
Officials are also asking anyone with photographs, videos or information related to the case to contact the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
