The Madison trailer

Taylor Sheridan has, unsurprisingly, done it again.

The Yellowstone creator continues to be the mind and influence behind various television spectacles that manage to bring in millions of viewers per episode. For today’s standards, that’s almost unprecedented, but Sheridan has evidently cracked the code and knows exactly what audiences want. He nailed it with Yellowstone and all of it’s spinoffs (some are still to come), and he’s already established other successful worlds within shows like Mayor of Kingstown and Landman.

One of the latest, new worlds he’s created – which was originally planned to be a Yellowstone spinoff – is The Madison. The newest show from the mind of Taylor Sheridan is described as the Yellowstone creator’s most intimate work… or as Kurt Russell put it, “female gaze-oriented.”

Taylor Sheridan Scores Biggest TV Debut Yet with 'The Madison'

It tells a story that explores grief and human connection, and as far as plot is concerned, the series revolves around the titular character of Stacy Clyburn (played by Michelle Pfeiffer), a wealthy matriarch who upends her life in New York City to move her and her family to Montana following a plane crash that kills her husband (played by Kurt Russell) and brother-in-law.

The entire first season of The Madison is currently available on Paramount+. Sheridan and the streaming service went about releasing the show in a unique way. On March 14, the first three episodes dropped. A week later, the remaining three episodes became available. In other words, The Madison was very binge-friendly, and viewers didn’t have to wait week-after-week to see how the story unfolded.

It appears that plan was a huge success, because according to Paramount+ (who used numbers from Luminate), The Madison achieved massive ratings in it’s first 10 days of availability. In a little over a week, the series starring Pfeiffer and Russell brought in 8 million viewers. That translated to the largest launch for a Taylor Sheridan original series on streaming, and it was also the most popular series launch for the demographic of women ages 35 and older.

The Madison': Taylor Sheridan's Michelle Pfeiffer Drama Is Thin

Considering that The Madison was advertised to be a departure from Sheridan’s usual crime and action themes, those are some absolutely impressive numbers. People went in knowing that it wouldn’t have the heart-pounding sequences like Yellowstone or Landman, and it still turned out to be a hit for Sheridan.

As the kids say nowadays, the man simply doesn’t miss (disclaimer: I don’t actually think today’s youth are saying that, or if they ever did). Western cowboy drama? That’s a Taylor Sheridan hit. A series pulling back the curtain on the oil industry? That’s a Taylor Sheridan hit. A melodrama about a family dealing with sudden loss and the grief that comes with that? Oh, you best believe that’s a Taylor Sheridan hit (and there are numbers from Luminate to prove it).

Like I stated earlier, all episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s newest hit series are now streaming on Paramount+. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it, or if you haven’t even seen a trailer for The Madison, make sure to check this one out below:
