Where to watch Dr Insanity doc about Mackenzie Shirilla case
Netflix fans are so gripped by The Crash they have sought out other true crime documentaries about the case

Viewers say it is just as heart breaking a watch as the Netflix film(Image: Netflix)
Enthusiasts have unearthed another true crime documentary examining the case, available free of charge.
Netflix’s latest offering, ‘The Crash’, swiftly claimed the top position amongst UK subscribers following its release. Viewers described it as ‘gut-wrenching’ and the ‘most uncomfortable’ true crime documentary, with some finding it challenging to watch.
According to the film’s synopsis, it begins after a vehicle carrying three young people crashes into a brick structure at 100 miles per hour in Strongsville, Ohio, resulting in two fatalities and one survivor. The driver was 17 year old Mackenzie Shirilla.
She was transporting her boyfriend, Dom, and his friend, Davion, home from a gathering when the unthinkable occurred. Both Dom and Davion were pronounced dead at the scene. The documentary proceeds to examine how what officers initially believed was a tragic accident was quickly revealed to be something far more sinister.
At the time of writing, the film has remained at the summit of Netflix’s most-watched films for a fortnight. It has garnered more than 27.5 million views in total since its launch, reports the Mirror.

Viewers have been so captivated by the case’s particulars that they’ve searched for additional documentaries. ‘The Crash’ is not the first occasion the incident and subsequent trial have been the subject of a true crime documentary.
Episodes of Mean Girl Murders on HBO Max and Killer Cases on Channel 4 also cover details surrounding the case. Much like The Crash, both programmes feature interviews with those who knew Mackenzie, including family members and friends.
Viewers have also been gravitating towards an episode of a well-known podcast that examined the case last year. An instalment of Dr Insanity similarly explores the events and features more body cam footage than was included in the Netflix documentary.
According to the Dr Insanity YouTube description, the series retells “the scariest stories on the internet. True crime and much more.” It further states that Dr Insanity delivers fact-checked true crime documentaries, showcasing real police incidents to promote transparency and public safety. They describe their content as educational, newsworthy, and based on authoritative sources.

Fans say the YouTube series contains more details(Image: Netflix)
The episode, titled ‘Parents Discover Their Daughter Is A Mass Killer’, opens with police camera footage of Mackenzie’s parents. Its description reads: “This is Natalie and John Shirilla, the parents of Mackenzie Shirilla. Just hours earlier they were informed their daughter was involved in a car accident, and that she was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital. However, what they’re about to hear from this officer, would change the course of their and McKenzie’s life forever.”
Uploaded in August 2025, the episode is available to stream free of charge on YouTube. Those who have already viewed it have expressed opinions broadly in line with reactions to the Netflix film. One viewer commented that it was a ‘heart breaking’ watch, while another replied that it includes “one of the hardest things I’ve watched”.
Further commenters suggested that the 28-minute episode contained even more detail about the case than the Netflix film. However, the streaming platform’s release does feature the first interview with Mackenzie herself since the crash.
The Crash is streaming on Netflix.
