Lester Holt’s tenure behind the NBC Nightly News anchor desk may be coming to an end, but Tom Llamas is preparing to step into the new role as early as this summer.

It’s the perfect time for viewers to familiarize themselves with Llamas ahead of his Nightly News debut. Here’s everything you need to know about the man who has some mighty big shoes to fill very soon!
The 45-year-old has an impressive resume in the field of broadcast journalism, making him the ideal replacement for Holt.
Llamas is currently a senior national correspondent for NBC News and anchor of Top Story with Tom Llamas on NBC News NOW, NBC’s 24/7 live news stream. (And he will continue to host Top Story once he officially takes over for Holt.) The star has been a mainstay on the NBC News team for more than two decades, but he’ll be under the biggest spotlight of his career when he starts at Nightly News in just a few months.
But what about his life away from the cameras? We’ve done some digging.
Is Tom Llamas married?
Yes! Llamas married his wife, Jennifer, in June 2006. Unlike her husband, who works in front of the camera, Jennifer works behind the scenes as a media producer.
In December 2024, Llamas shared an Instagram carousel highlighting a romantic getaway with Jennifer in arguably the most romantic place in the world: Paris, France!

Does Tom Llamas have any children?
Llamas and his wife have three beautiful kids: daughters Malena (born in 2013) and Juliette (2015), and an only son, Thomas, who came into their lives in 2017.

Llamas isn’t shy about showing off his family to the world on social media. Back in June 2024, Llamas and Thomas traveled to New York City’s Yankee Stadium to watch the team play the Dodgers — and judging by the smile on his face, little Thomas loved every bit of watching baseball with his dad.
When asked by Yahoo Life in 2021 about what he’s learned about his children since becoming a parent, Llamas couldn’t hide the joy he had for his kids!
:They bring so much happiness to me and my wife,” he confessed. “We like to go on vacation together but we’re at the point where we want to take them along. Thankfully, we have all the grandparents who come in and help us out. But now, we just want to spend time with them and be together.”
So there you have it: Llamas is an accomplished journalist and a dedicated family man — he’s got so much in common with Holt that fans know he’ll slide into his new role perfectly!
