OPINION: The Duke of Sussex should have his security in the UK improved – here’s why.

Prince Harry is currently awaiting the results of a Home Office review into his UK security situation. When he quit royal life and moved to America in 2020, the Duke of Sussex lost his 24 hour police protection in the UK.

He has since unsuccessfully fought against this, however just weeks ago it was revealed the Home Office was to review his situation. The result of the review will be published within weeks.

While Harry will no doubt be hoping to get his 24-hour police protection back, I am also hoping he does.

This is because two royals depend on it.

Since 2022, Harry has been reluctant to bring his children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, to the UK. Why? He claims it is unsafe.

However, if he gets 24-hour police protection, it is likely he will be bringing his children back to the UK with him.

And this is the reason why I think his security should be reinstated.

Because Archie and Lilibet should get to know the UK, they should get to see where their father came from and be safe, and they should be able to enjoy relationships with their royal relatives that aren’t over a video call.

This is all things they could do, and Harry and Meghan would feel comfortable letting them do, if security for Harry – and his family – was at the strongest level possible.

With Archie and Lilibet having not visited the UK since 2022, it is unlikely they have many – if any – proper memories of their father’s home country.

And that means they may also have limited memories of their royal relatives too.

For the sake of their futures being filled with family, I think security for the family should be at whatever level it needs to be for allow them to make safe and happy trips across the pond.
