Mary Lou was rushed to hospital after a house fire in Gaston County, North Carolina, on December 28, 2025.

Hamlin’s father died from his injuries sustained in the fire at 75 years old.

The NASCAR star has now provided an update on his mother’s condition after weeks of silence.

He has provided a positive update to reporters ahead of the Cook Out Clash in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“She’s getting better, she’s actually down in Florida with some family this week,” Hamlin said.

“So she’s definitely getting better.”

Mother Mary Lou had tragically attempted to drag her husband out of the fire before he was pronounced dead.

Hamlin had previously revealed before Christmas that his father was terminally ill.

But no details were given on Dennis’ condition.

Three-time Daytona 500 winner Hamlin previously shared an update to explain that his mom was recovering following the house fire.

The fire came during a horror month for NASCAR.

Legendary driver Greg Biffle was killed alongside his wife and daughter in a plane crash before Christmas.

Hamlin has also provided an update after he suffered an injury of his own at his parents’ house.

He tripped on rubble while sifting through debris at the burned-out house.

The NASCAR driver has torn the rotator cuff in his right shoulder.

This comes after he had surgery on the injury previously.

“I don’t think that it ever healed properly,” Hamlin added. “Just noticed some issues, really kind of right after the season. It just was nagging me a little bit.”

Hamlin finished fifth in the preseason Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium on Wednesday.
