Ben Kayser was discussing Scotland’s Six Nations win when he referenced Sione Tuipulotu
Mike Tindall was left in stitches after a French podcast guest admitted he had no idea who Princess Anne was during an episode of The Good, The Bad & The Rugby.
Ben Kayser, a former French rugby union player, appeared on the podcast to discuss Scotland’s 50-40 win over France in last Saturday’s Six Nations match. During the episode, Mr Kayser referred to the moment in which the Princess Royal joked about her awkward handshake with Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu.
Following Scotland’s victory over England last month, Mr Tuipulotu moved in to embrace Anne when she congratulated him after the match.
However, the 75-year-old declined the hug and instead greeted the Scotland captain with a handshake.
After Scotland’s win against France on March 7, Mr Tuipulotu jokingly leaned forward as though attempting a second hug with the Princess Royal.
Anne laughed and raised her hands playfully, appearing to signal that a handshake would suffice.
During the podcast episode, Mr Kayser said: “The day before the game I managed to bump into Finn Russell, and we’re chatting, and he’s gone, ‘I reckon we’re gonna do this.’
“He had this swagger about him, it really annoyed me, by the way. He really believed it!”

Mr Tindall quipped: “You look at how well Ben White played by the way!”
Mr Kayser replied: “Yeah, he played super well, and he got under Antoine’s skin massively with a bit of gobbiness, but I think it’s all part of the game, and you look at the Tuipulotu sort of hug… I don’t even know who she is exactly.
“Is it a princess?”
Mr Tindall raised his eyebrows at the question with a cheeky grin before replying: “My mother-in-law, yeah…”

Alex Payne, who co-hosts the podcast with Mr Tindall and James Haskell, clarified with laughter: “The Princess Royal.”
The group, including cameramen backstage, then burst into laughter.
Mr Tindall leaned back, roaring with laughter in disbelief that Mr Kayser did not know who Anne was.
Mr Payne added: “We’ll introduce you at some point.”

Mr Kayser sheepishly replied: “No, I haven’t been introduced yet.”
Elsewhere in the episode, the former French international explained why he loves the sport.
He said: “Rugby’s got this unique ability to really describe it, but tangibly describe when you really want to put your heart into something.
“That passion, human sort of connection, belief side of winning is paramount for us because it’s a physical sport, because there’s so many of us on the pitch and it really will always make the difference.
“It’s something that’s hard to explain when you look at the analytics, how do you put a metric to the ticker, to passion, to belief, and that’s why I was so impressed by Scotland.”
