The Waleses and Edinburghs gathered at Glasgow’s velodrome on Saturday for the penultimate day of the Commonwealth Games, offering a rare public glimpse of Prince Edward’s relationship with his great-niece and great-nephews.
Prince William and Catherine brought all three of their children: Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight, to the track cycling, where they took seats in a row behind the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. British cycling great Sir Chris Hoy was also seated alongside Edward and Sophie.
The Duke of Edinburgh, 62, positioned directly in front of George and Charlotte, was captured in photographs sharing a jovial exchange with the two eldest Wales children.
He was also spotted reaching across to hand something to Louis, with onlookers speculating it may have been a snack.

The interaction between Charlotte and her great-uncle drew particular attention on social media. “She clearly adores her great uncle. So lovely to see,” one commenter wrote.
Others echoed the sentiment, with one describing it as a “sweet photo of Princess Charlotte and uncle Edward” and another calling it a “cute photo of Charlotte looking at her Uncle Edward.”
The Waleses and Edinburghs frequently sit near one another at major events owing to their senior positions, and have previously appeared together with their children, notably at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
However, Edward’s own children, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, did not attend the Glasgow outing.

Beyond the velodrome, Charlotte took in netball and judo during the day’s programme. She also had an enthusiastic encounter with the Games mascot, Finnie the unicorn, greeting the character with a high-five – a gesture both George and Louis repeated.
The Duchess of Edinburgh, who attended without her own children, was seen embracing Charlotte warmly upon arrival, though the 11-year-old appeared partly distracted by the action on the track below.
Sophie wore a Soler California shirt paired with a £189 Penelope Chilvers denim skirt, while Charlotte opted for a polka dot chiffon dress from Guess.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, who carry the titles Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, used the visit to meet Team Wales athletes and their families.

They also spent time with individuals supported by SportsAid, the charity Catherine has served as patron of since 2013.
Both families face significant transitions this summer. Prince George is set to begin at Eton in September, following the path taken by his father and uncle Prince Harry.
He previously attended Lambrook School in Windsor with his siblings.

Meanwhile, Lady Louise, 22, recently completed her degree at the University of St Andrews and plans to spend a gap year travelling, working and volunteering.
She is in a relationship with fellow student Felix da Silva Clamp, who sat beside her when she received her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award from Prince Edward in Edinburgh last month. James, Earl of Wessex, 18, has finished at Radley College, though his next steps remain undecided.
The Waleses typically join King Charles and Queen Camilla at Balmoral during August.
