Peter Phillips supported Prince Harry through dark time before wedding no-show

Peter Phillips is thought to have previously shared a close bond with Prince Harry.

Peter Phillips is said to have supported Prince Harry after one of the darkest periods of his life. The 48-year-old, who tied the knot for the second time yesterday, was previously thought to have been very close to his cousin – but the pair are now said to have not spoken in years.

Harry, who now resides in the US with his wife, Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, was not in attendance as Peter tied the knot with Harriet Sperling in Kemble earlier today. It has previously been reported that Peter did not extend an invite to his cousin.

At the funeral for the late Queen in 2022, Peter was noticeably placed to be the one to stand alongside Prince Harry and Prince William during the procession – with the brothers having been involved in a bitter feud for a number of years.

Royal biographer Hugo Vickers believes the Queen may have picked Peter to stand between the brothers because he supported them after their late mother’s death in 1997, claiming that Peter “acted as mediator” on the day.

Speaking to Mail Online after the funeral four years ago, Hugo said: “Peter Philips was incredibly good with the boys when Diana died, so I think it will be very good for them.

“Sometimes I think that when people behave very well in public, which I think they will do, they find it easier to behave better in private.

“Prince Philip and the Queen were conciliators all their lives, so I’m sure that is what he would have wanted.”

The King and Queen Camilla step out to lead the royals at Peter and Harriet’s wedding today.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, who were not joined by their children, also stepped in support of the happy couple.

Other attendees included Princess Anne, Sir Timothy Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
