Prince Edward’s daughter missed last year’s show but is now working as a ‘chief organiser’
Lady Louise Windsor has taken on a paid position as one of the principal organisers at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, which commenced today in Berkshire.
The 22-year-old, currently reading English at the University of St Andrews, arrived at the prestigious equestrian event undeterred by the chilly, wet conditions.
Event director Nick Brooks-Ward spoke highly of King Charles’s niece, telling Vanity Fair: “Lady Louise is one of the chief organisers, essentially operating a first concierge service.
“She’s a great worker and a real asset to the team with no airs or graces. It’s a proper paid job, and there’s no special treatment because of who she is.”

He added: “It’s wonderful that [Lady Louise] has continued this close connection and taken such an interest.
“She’s a great friend to the horse show and we are very grateful to the King for letting us use his back garden and we hope to see him at the show this year.”
The down-to-earth royal missed last year’s show but is making her mark at this year’s edition, held on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, accompanied her as the show got underway ahead of King Charles’s expected attendance later in the week.

Sophie, 61, watched her daughter assist with preparations, visibly delighted by Louise’s involvement, which held special significance for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The duchess dressed elegantly for the cold May afternoon in a beige tweed jacket paired with dark brown trousers and an off-white scarf, carrying a waterproof jacket and a brown shoulder bag.
Prince Edward, 62, was also present at the horse show, which his mother cherished and visited just months before her death in September 2022.
The duke and duchess serve as president and vice-president of the show respectively, with Mr Brooks-Ward noting they “invest a lot of time in the show”.

Beyond her organisational duties, Lady Louise will take part in the carriage driving competition later this week, a discipline she learned from her late grandfather, Prince Philip.
The Duke of Edinburgh was passionate about the sport, racing carriages near Norfolk during the 1970s before representing Britain at multiple world and European championships.
Lady Louise and her grandfather formed a close bond through their mutual love of carriage driving, and she continues to drive his ponies to honour his memory.
In a poignant tribute during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in May 2022, she drove Prince Philip’s carriage in an emotional procession at the finale of the “Gallop Through History” event.
She will participate in the Meet of the British Driving Society on the show’s final day.

The St Andrews student, often dubbed the Royal Family’s “secret weapon”, has drawn comparisons to her late grandmother due to their shared passion for horses.
Royal biographer Ingrid Seward previously observed: “There are shades of the young Elizabeth. There is something about her a capability. She’s obviously a very gentle young woman.”
The late Queen would stroll among the stalls at Windsor wearing a headscarf and frequently entered her homebred horses and ponies in various classes.
Lady Louise typically maintains a low profile, rarely appearing at royal engagements as she focuses on her studies, though reports suggest she may be considering a military career.
Royal author Christopher Wilson has described her as a “dark-horse contender” in King Charles’s streamlined monarchy.
