BBC’s hit competition Gladiators returned to our screens on Saturday, with presenters Bradley and Barney Walsh introducing four new contenders. The latest episode introduced Millie Margetts, a firefighter from Cleethorpes, who was first tasked with taking on Cyclone in a tough duel.

Although she initially called the elite “scary”, the contestant took a few hits and ultimately fell to the mat, losing against the first-ever Irish Gladiator. Ahead of her BBC debut, Millie opened up about starring on the series and facing the fast-paced challenge. The 28-year-old revealed that her job at Immingham East Fire Station required her to be fit and have upper body strength.

However, it was her CrossFit coaching role that had been a “massive help”. Despite this, she admitted: “It was tough.”

Millie went on: “The Gladiators are fierce. They’re strong, but honestly, it was the best experience ever.”

Sharing her hope, the player added: “I wish I could relive it.”

During the episode, viewers saw clips of the firefighter training in the gym in preparation for the immense challenge ahead, and she stated: “I’m here to win, it’s the strongest I’ve ever been. Game on.”

Millie made it to the eliminator, which is the final, decisive obstacle course. She went up against Ellie, a 37-year-old veterinary surgeon from Scotland, and raced head-to-head for a place in the next round.

After being neck and neck throughout the task, Millie was close to reaching the quarter-finals, but failed to speed up on the travelator and was beaten by Ellie.

While Ellie reached the top first, Millie slipped, failing to secure her place in the next round.

Speaking to the presenters, Millie admitted: “It was difficult, but Ellie absolutely shined through the eliminator, she’s incredible.”

As for the point where she dropped her lead position, the firefighter added: “As soon as you get on the net. As soon as Ellie jumped on it, it made it a lot harder.”

The vet praised her opponent, saying: “Millie is an amazing contender. She’s so strong, she’s incredible. I was just doing my best.”
