The Prince and Princess of Wales spent Easter Sunday 2014 at a church service in Sydney amid a three-week royal tour of Australia and New Zealand

or many years of her public life, the Princess of Wales has marked Easter Sunday by joining members of the royal family at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, with a few exceptions, including in 2014 when she and Prince William spent Easter Sunday in Australia.

Breaking from tradition, Kate, 44, was seen at a church service at St Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney amid her and William’s three-week royal tour of New Zealand and Australia. Embracing warmer temperatures, the then-Duchess of Cambridge opted for a mini coat dress courtesy of Alexander McQueen.

The chic funnel neck number featured a figure-skimming fit and sleeves that cut off just above the wrist to reveal her Cartier watch. Underneath, Kate wore a fitted dress in the same pale grey hue and accessorised with a bespoke slate grey Jane Taylor percher hat.

It sat atop her elegant half-updo, which kept her hair off her face and showcased her beautiful aquamarine earrings. For her makeup, the royal opted for a heavier eyeshadow look than what she wears now, pairing the smoky eye with pink cheeks and a peachy lip colour.

The colour of Kate’s look struck Leanne Jones, a fashion stylist and colour expert who trained at the London College of Style.

“These soft, pastel tones are a natural fit for Kate, who aligns with a ‘summer’ palette in colour analysis. The dove grey shade felt perfectly attuned to spring, with lilac and blue undertones that subtly reflect the season,” she tells us.

“What elevates the look further is the confident use of colour blocking, with the shoes and hat matched in the same hue. It’s a simple but effective styling technique that instantly creates a more refined and considered finish.

“It’s also something Kate has mastered over the years, returning to similar blue, colour-blocked looks for Easter appearances in both 2022 and 2023.”

As Leanne points out, Kate’s Easter Sunday looks from 2022 and 2023, which saw her return to Windsor for the occasion, were particularly memorable.

Shining in pastels, the mother-of-three rocked pastel blue, centering her look on an A-line coat dress by Emilia Wickstead. She also wore suede heels in the same hue, and what made her look interesting was how she swapped a typical hat for a ribbed headband by Jane Taylor.
