Real reason Princess Lilibet suddenly got a royal title

Princess Lilibet is celebrating her fifth birthday today, with her special day likely set to include private celebrations with her family. At the time of her birth, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had already opted not to give Prince Archie a title when he was born two years prior, meaning that their daughter also was simply known as Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor – with no ‘princess’ title before her name.
Following Lilibet’s christening in 2023, both children were referred to as ‘prince’ and ‘princess’ as, according to a spokesperson for the Sussexes, it was their “birthright” as two of King Charles’s five grandchildren.
At the time, Charles had been monarch for less than one year, but the spokesperson revealed that Archie and Lilibet would now hold royal titles due to their paternal grandfather’s reign.
Archie and Lilibet, who were noted as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor on the line of succession, are sixth and seventh in line to the throne.
Much like Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, Lilibet and her brother became entitled to use the titles ‘prince’ and ‘princess’ upon the King’s accession to the throne, as a result of the late Queen Elizabeth’s grandfather, King George V.
In 1917, the King issued Letters Patent stating that the monarch’s children, male-line grandchildren, and the eldest son of the Prince of Wales are entitled to princely status.

Meghan has marked her daughter’s birthday today by sharing two new pictures of Lilibet.
In the first picture, Lilibet is shown with her parents cuddling her, whilst in the second, she is seen alone wearing a dress.
Alongside the two pictures, Meghan wrote: “Our dream girl. Happy 5th birthday, Lili.”
