The actor revealed he first met the princess over 30 years ago

Kurt Russell has disclosed that he provided Princess Diana with a private retreat at one of his properties, where she spent a week with her young sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

The Hollywood star shared the story during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, revealing that the late princess took him up on an offer he made after recognising her difficulties with media intrusion.

Mr Russell told Mr Ross that Harry has spoken to him about the holiday on several occasions over the years, describing it as “one of the really fun times they had” together as a family.

The 74-year-old actor explained that his encounter with Diana occurred at the royal premiere of Backdraft in August 1991, where he found himself seated between the princess and Charles, then Prince of Wales.

Mr Russell recalled: “I was sitting in between her and Charles. I understand her difficulties with paparazzi and all that kind of thing.”

Recognising the pressures she faced from constant media attention, he extended an invitation to the princess.

“I said ‘If you ever want to go somewhere that’s pretty under control, we’ll work it out let me know’,” Mr Russell told Mr Ross.

Diana subsequently brought both princes to stay at the property for a week.

Mr Russell noted that neither he nor his family were present during Diana’s stay, but the princess expressed her gratitude through written correspondence.

“I wasn’t there, none of us were there at the time but she wrote some really nice cards and things like that,” he said.

The actor, who owns a ranch in Colorado, reflected warmly on the royal connection to his home.

“I think it’s a great thing the future king of England (William) was sleeping in my son’s room,” Mr Russell remarked.

He added that Harry has been consistently appreciative whenever they have crossed paths since, always mentioning the cherished family memory.

The 74-year-old also spoke about his long-standing partnership with actress Goldie Hawn, which has lasted 43 years.

“It is amazing. She is amazing. She is one of the great people on the planet,” he told Mr Ross.

The pair first crossed paths in 1966 while filming a Disney production, which was Hawn’s debut film, before reconnecting years later on the set of Swing Shift.

When asked about marriage, Mr Russell responded cryptically: “You never know.”
