The nationalities of the victim and suspect have not yet been made public.

Spanish cops said the two deaths are thought to be a case of the twisted crime of “vicarious violence” – where an abuser harms a woman by targeting people she loves, most commonly her children.

Pilar Bernabe, a Valencian government spokesperson, said: “Shocked by the murder of a minor in Alicante.

“Unbearable terrorism. All my love to his family and friends.”

The bodies of the daughter, 3, and her dad, 40, were found at 1am local time this morning, cops said.

The child’s mum, 36, had raised the alarm after she had been unable to contact her ex.

Local reports claimed the suspect had been threatening to harm their little girl if his ex didn’t leave her new partner.

When the mum heard the news of her daughter’s death, she was distraught.

It is understood that she was rushed to hospital after suffering a panic attack.

A police spokesperson said: “The child’s mother, a 36-year-old woman and ex-partner of the alleged perpetrator, notified the Civil Guard last night that she had been unable to contact him for several hours and feared that the father might have harmed his daughter, who was with him.

“Immediately, the Civil Guard began an investigation locating the lifeless bodies at the home of the alleged perpetrator.

“There were no previous reports of mistreatment between them.”

An investigation has been opened into the alleged murder.

It comes after a Spanish man allegedly killed his two daughters in Tenerife at the end of April 2021 in a case that shocked the world.

Tomas Gimeno, 37, is thought to have committed suicide after murdering his young girls and dumping their bodies in the Atlantic Ocean.

His eldest daughter Olivia, six, was found in a sports bag attached to an anchor more than 3,000 feet underwater on the ocean bed off the holiday island on June 10 2021.

Her sister Anna’s body is thought to have been thrown off Gimeno’s boat.

A judge probing the trio’s disappearance accused Gimeno of killing his children and leaving their bodies where he did in a “planned and premeditated fashion to cause his ex-partner inhumane pain”.
