A HOMELESS woman was accidentally grabbed by a garbage truck claw and crushed to death, her family claim.

The Jefferson County Coroner confirmed Wednesday that Adams’s cause of death was blunt force trauma, reported Wave 3. 

Adams was homeless and living behind a convenience store at the time of the tragedy on February 12.

The city reportedly told her family that Adams had “come in contact” with the vehicle, branding her death an unfortunate accident.

“A woman, who could not be seen by the crew, was in some of this garbage that was picked up and moved to another location before it was hauled away”, Mayor Craig Greenburg said at the time.

Adding: “And in the course of that, again unseen, the woman suffered injuries.”

But, the family’s attorney claims she has information which suggests there is more to the story.

Stephanie Rivas said: “She didn’t walk into this truck.

“They physically picked her up with that claw, squeezed her, compressed her, and dropped her. And left her there to find her own help.”

Rivas is now compiling information as the family prepares a lawsuit against the city.

Witnesses reportedly told cops that the worker operating the garbage truck got out of the vehicle after Adams was dropped on the floor.

They allege the worker looked at the pile of rubbish and returned to the vehicle.

Rivas said if the area had been “properly inspected”, Adams would not have been picked up by the claw.

After the horror incident, Adams managed to walk to the convenience store.

But she collapsed at the entrance and was found by a customer who called emergency services.

Adams had blood coming out of her mouth and nose and was completely unable to speak, according to WDRB.

She died later at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Her family have been left distraught by the news of her gruesome death.

Adams sister Sarah Akers said: “Knowing that they didn’t help her at all — that’s where most of my anger comes from.”

The public works employees operating the garbage truck at the time have since been placed on leave, according to the City of Louisville.

Their truck was impounded by police amid the ongoing investigation.

The family hopes to receive compensation and more information through their pending legal action.

The Sun has contacted the Louisville metro police for comment.
