Mel Schilling had one message for fans when she revealed her terminal cancer diagnosis. The Married At First Sight star, 54, told fans that over the Christmas period, she started suffering from new symptoms.

A scan later discovered that her colon cancer had once again metastasised and had spread to her brain. Doctors later informed Mel that there was nothing more they could do to help her. The star was previously misdiagnosed on two occasions before being informed she had colon cancer in 2023.

But as she confirmed her sad news, Mel told fans to always stick to their guns and keep putting pressure on doctors if they try to brush off any concerns.

Speaking on Instagram, Mel said: “If I could leave you with one thing, it would simply be this: if something doesn’t feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life.”

Mel first noticed symptoms of her colon cancer while filming MAFS in Australia. These included severe stomach cramps, but two doctors brushed the symptoms off and claimed Mel was constipated or tired. However, upon her return to the United Kingdom, she was diagnosed with colon cancer after a scan.

The TV star underwent surgery to remove her lemon-sized tumour, which she had named Terry. However, a year after her diagnosis, a routine scan showed small nodules on her lung and her cancer had metastasised.

She’d undergone 16 rounds of chemotherapy and had also been told she could be part of a groundbreaking medical trial, which was due to start this month. But heartbreakingly, Mel started suffering new symptoms, including “blinding headaches,” over the Christmas period.

Sadly, she was later informed that her cancer had spread to the left side of her brain. Despite more radiotherapy treatment, Mel’s oncologists have informed her that there is nothing more they can do. In a gut-wrenching Instagram post, she added: “Hearing those words changes everything.

“So that’s where I am now. My light is starting to fade — and quickly. But I am still here, still fighting, and surrounded by the most incredible love. Simple tasks have become incredibly difficult, and I am relying on my beautiful family to look after me. I honestly don’t know how long I have left, but I do know I will fight to my last breath and will be surrounded by the love and support of my people.

“At the outset of this journey, so many of you sent the most wonderful messages of support. They have meant more than I can ever properly express and have helped shape the mindset I’ve needed to keep fighting.”
