It took rescuers more than six hours to find her in the bitter weather after she slipped while walking along the side of Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks on Thursday, according to police.

The 21-year-old, who regularly shared snaps of herself walking on remote adventures, called 911 while clinging to the side of the mountain.

But rescuers couldn’t locate her until after 9pm, by which time she had died of hypothermia, New York State police said.

Forest rangers searched around the 5,300-foot peak by snowmobile for Mohr, but had no joy in locating her.

As well as the forest rangers’ work, police also launched helicopters to try and find her in time as temperatures plummeted.

Temperatures in Keene, New York, where the mountain is located, ranged from -8 to 20 degrees that day.

Low cloud cover prevented officers from seeing her by helicopter.

Her final, captionless post on Instagram, shared on January 14, showed several scenic snaps from one of her final adventures.

The beachfront photos included boats floating on the water backlit by a pastel sunset, a lone helicopter overhead against a blue sky, and a handful of small shells gathered from a shoreline, among several others.

Family tributes

The 21-year-old’s family spoke of their devastation online

Mohr’s mother, Stephanie West, posted a photo tribute to her daughter on Valentine’s Day — the day her autopsy was completed.

“I am so lost,” she wrote on Facebook alongside a broken-heart emoji.

“You were the best friend and sister I could have ever asked for,” her brother Ryan said on social media, according to Asbury Park Press.

“You are the reason I am the person I am….I love you forever Bri,” he added. “Rest in peace.”

Before her tragic fall, Mohr was known to be an adventurer who liked nothing more than hiking remote landscapes.

Her Instagram page shows the places she had travelled to to see scenery before – ranging from Death Valley, California, to Yellowstone with her loyal dog.

The pup was found by her body unharmed and unhurt, according to police.
