Love Island viewers are convinced that a fan-favourite tradition has quietly been scrapped after this Friday’s (24 July) episode featured the Islanders sharing one final dinner ahead of a highly-anticipated final.

With just days to go until one couple walks away with the £50k cash prize, the remaining Islanders gathered for one last meal together as they reflected on their journeys in the Villa and looked ahead to life on the outside.

The emotional dinner has become a staple of Love Island‘s closing week, giving contestants the chance to celebrate their time and the lessons they learned along the way before their final declarations of love – and the public vote.

However, the scenes also prompted a new wave of speculation among viewers, with many questioning whether the traditional final dates have been dropped

In previous series, the finalists have each been treated to extravagant dates away from the Villa, often involving high-budget excursions or picturesque landscapes. The outings have typically formed one of the last episodes before the final, allowing couples to spend some uninterrupted time together before leaving the Villa.

This year, though, fans are beginning to fear these dates may not happen. As the dinner aired, viewers took to social media to speculate that the show’s budget may have run out, joking that production had opted to keep the islanders in the Villa instead.

However, one couple quickly became the main talking point as the Islanders were informed that another public vote had resulted in the show’s last dumping. It was at that moment that Priya and Aidan learned they had been eliminated and immediately left the Villa.

Ahead of the finale, only a handful of couples remain – Mica & Samraj, Julia & Lorenzo, Angelista & Simba, Yasmin & Tommy, and Jasmine & Kavan. But only one pairing can win.

This comes after Priya’s attempt to make amends with Julia, after a tense few days in the Villa. Julia had been vocal about her scepticism over Priya’s bond with Aidan, and her opinion has driven a deep wedge between Islanders.

While some couples believe Priya and Aidan’s connection is authentic, others have quietly agreed with Julia. Off-screen, viewers have also pointed out the possibility that Aidan latched on to Priya to make it to the final after his romances with Ellie and Yasmin abruptly ended.

Still, this Friday’s episode saw Priya and Aidan agree to part ways once and for all, and the pair left the Villa firmly set on keeping their bond strictly platonic.

With the final due to air in a matter of days, Sunday’s (26 July) has already promised a major twist as dumped Islanders from this year’s series will be returning to the Villa for one final debrief. But could the reunion bring forth forgotten tensions?
