A newly released video of missing four‑year‑old August “Gus” Lamont has revealed a crucial detail that could help find answers in the missing child case.
7NEWS understands the wide‑brimmed grey felt hat he is seen wearing in the footage is the same hat he was wearing when he disappeared 150 days ago.
The never‑before‑seen vision, released by South Australian Police on Tuesday, shows Gus smiling in the distinctive hat.
Until now, investigators had only released an image of the Minions T‑shirt he was last seen in at the front of his family’s remote Oak Park Station homestead near Yunta.
The only other detail ever made public was that he had been wearing a grey sun hat.

The new clue comes as Gus’s parents broke their silence, saying their lives have been “shattered” since their son vanished on September 27.
In an emotional appeal, they begged anyone with even the smallest piece of information to come forward, releasing new video and another photograph of their little boy in the hope it may jog someone’s memory.
They thanked police, emergency services, ADF personnel, volunteers, specialists, friends and supporters whose efforts, they said, had carried them through “the darkest days of our lives”.
Police were told Gus was last seen playing outside the homestead while his grandmother cared for his younger brother inside.
Despite one of the state’s largest search operations — involving police, SES volunteers, Indigenous trackers, drones and helicopters — no significant trace of the child has been found.
The only confirmed physical clue remains a single footprint discovered about 500m from the property.

Last week, South Australian Police confirmed they now have a suspect in the disappearance and formally declared the case a major crime.
Detectives say a person who lives at Oak Park Station has withdrawn their cooperation and is now considered a suspect, though police stress it is not either of Gus’s parents.
A forensic search of the homestead has been completed, with officers seizing a vehicle, a motorcycle and electronic devices.
Police say they remain confident Gus did not simply wander off and that Task Force Horizon continues to pursue every lead.
