A 26-year-old hiker’s cause of death has been released by authorities after she died after falling from a volcano in Indonesia.
On June 21, Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins fell from a cliff that surrounds a trail next to the crater of Mount Rinjani, a volcano that is more than 12,000 feet high, on the Indonesian island of Lombok, according to a previous translated statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
The fall occurred about 6:30 a.m. local time while she was en route to the peak, the Gunung Rinjani National Park stated in a previous news release.
After multiple days of searching, authorities announced on June 24 that her body had been found.
Three days later, on June 27, a local coroner discussed Marins’ cause of death at a press conference at Bali Mandara Hospital in Denpasar, where her body had been examined, according to Brazilian outlet O Globo.
Agência Brasil said that an autopsy had confirmed Marins had “died of internal bleeding caused by damage to organs and bone fractures.”

The injuries are thought to have “stemmed from blunt force trauma a few hours before the body was recovered,” the agency stated, adding that the final results of the autopsy, which will also include toxicology tests, are expected in two weeks.
Marins is believed to have died less than 20 minutes after the bleeding began, the agency reported.
Coroner Dr. Ida Bagus Putu Alit said that there were “no signs of hypothermia or prolonged suffering after the injury,” per the translated O Globo report.
PEOPLE has attempted to contact Alit for additional information.
Marins’ family confirmed her death in a statement the same day that authorities revealed she’d been discovered deceased.
“Today, the rescue team managed to reach the place where Juliana Marins was,” read a translated message on June 24. “With immense sadness, we inform you that she did not survive. We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of affection and support that we have received.”
Marins’ family had created an Instagram account to track recovery efforts. On Wednesday, June 25 the family said they would be seeking justice for their daughter they believed to be neglected in her final moments.
“Juliana suffered great negligence on the part of the rescue team,” the family wrote in a translated statement. “If the team had reached her within the estimated time of 7 hours Juliana would still be alive.”
Marins was en route to the peak with her five friends when she fell, Muhammad Hariyadi, the head of local rescuers, told Reuters. Marins didn’t fall into the volcano’s crater, but the soft sand where she was located made it difficult for the rescue team of 50 people to retrieve her.
Drone footage obtained by Brazilian outlet TV Brasil EBC appeared to show Marins sitting in the grey sand conscious and fidgeting.

Marins was nowhere to be found in the drone footage shown the following morning, but she was located again by rescuers on Monday, June 23, according to the BBC.
The day before her body was found, Marins’ family made a desperate plea for help on social media. “A WHOLE DAY and they had advanced only 250m below, they were 350m away from Juliana and they retreated,” they wrote. “WE NEED HELP, WE NEED THE RESCUE TO REACH JULIANA URGENTLY!”
Mount Rinjani is a popular hiking destination and Indonesia’s second-highest volcano at 12,224 feet.
