Meghan Markle has been criticised for “splashing” her children’s names on two new As Ever candles. The candles, which are dedicated to six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet, are part of the US Mother’s Day collection.
The candles will be available to purchase from 9am Californian time on April 22. The ‘Signature Candle No. 604’ is inspired by Lilibet’s June 4 birthday. The second is named the ‘Signature Candle No. 506’, which is inspired by Archie’s May 6 birthday. Shown on the As Ever website, it states “Prince Archie of Sussex’s Birthdate” and “Princess Lilibet of Sussex’s Birthdate” in the descriptions.
The Lilibet-inspired candle reads that it will add “a sense of brightness and openness to the home”, whilst Archie-inspired candle will bring “a soft, familiar ease into the room”.
Taking to X, one fan commented on the fact Meghan previously expressed concern for the safety of Archie and Lilibet but has now used their names – and dates of birth – in her brand’s products.
Alonside a clip of a tearful Meghan talking about her children’s safety in the couple’s 2022 Netflix docuseries, they wrote: “Meghan Markle went from caring about “her babies” safety to splashing their names on candles for a buck while Harry waits for an outcome on his security case against the Home office.”
Another royal fan commented: “This chick just doesn’t know when to quit does she?…”
A third added: “Must be getting desperate”, whilst a fourth added, “Desperate times call for desperate measures, I suppose.”
Archie and Lilibet remained in the US during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s recent Australia visit.
The criticism comes as the pair confirmed that they will help produce a new polo-themed drama for Netflix.
Set in the town of Wellington, Florida, the new untitled project will follow two rival teams and the families that lead them
The scripted series is their latest offering under their first look Netflix deal which gives the streaming giant first option on projects by the Sussexes’ Archewell Productions.
A spokesman for the Sussexes suggested there would be more announcements coming on the productions front with Netflix and other streamers soon.
According to US outlet Deadline the series will be written by Francisca X Hu, known for the TV series Dynasty, who will also act as an executive producer alongside the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
