A teenager and a truckie have been killed in separate crashes in the space of 30 minutes as wet weather lashed Victoria’s roads.
A fuel truck rolled in Gippsland and then a P-plater lost control in Melbourne’s north, killing his mate.
Police were called to Mickleham Rd at Attwood about 7am on Saturday after an 18-year-old P-plater lost control of his Mitsubishi Triton.
The three teens had just dropped a friend home. Moments later, the car was careening over a median strip and into the path of oncoming traffic.
The ute narrowly avoided hitting a truck, but two other motorists weren’t so lucky. Both drivers injured after the Triton slammed into their utes.
The teen’s passenger was killed, and another was left fighting for life. The teen driver was also hospitalsied.
“We’re talking about five people involved in an early morning collision, so it could be a lot worse,” Detective Sergeant Lee Barton said.
Police say speed was a factor in the collision.
In Gippsland, a truckie has died after a b-double fuel tanker rolled on the Princes Freeway shortly before 6.30am on Saturday.
The truck lost traction on a downhill section of the road, impacted a guardrail, which caused it to catch on fire.
The crash was so severe, the trailers and cabin were torn apart while petrol and diesel spilled too.
The freeway between Warragul and Yarragon remains closed
