Princess Charlotte is yet to play her mother’s favourite sport at school, the Princess of Wales herself has revealed. Princess Catherine carried out a series of engagements in northern England on Tuesday to shine a light on the healing power of creativity, community and nature for individuals who have experienced trauma, isolation and poor mental health.
She met schoolgirls being put through their rugby paces, pensioners taking part in a quiz and teenagers at risk of being excluded from school in Bradford, Wakefield, while she also took a supported wellbeing walk in the Peak District. While visiting the rugby stadium in West Yorkshire, Catherine, who is patron of the Rugby Football League, spoke to teenage girls during a break from their skills session for Wakefield’s Champion Schools competition.
She was asked about Princess Charlotte’s school activities as she stood beside the pitch in freezing temperatures due to Storm Chandra, telling the young players: “She does loads of sport but not rugby.”

She also joked with the group about the physicality of rugby league, saying: “There’s not any other sport when you can say contact is a good thing.”
Aside from being patron, Catherine is a big rugby fan and has taken part in many sports activities during her engagements in the past.
Earlier this month, she hosted a special reception at Windsor Castle to celebrate the Red Roses’ triumph at the women’s Rugby World Cup.
The future Queen hailed the “amazing achievement,” telling the world champions: “You’ve really inspired all the new generation (that) perhaps might not even have thought rugby was for them.”
She added: “I think it really showed how accessible rugby is to so many types of girls, in different parts of the country.”
Catherine said that her children play rugby at home and had the Red Roses in stitches after revealing that she would not want to be tackled by Prince George.
Asked if her daughter played the sport, the princess replied: “Charlotte is playing rugby, but at home with the family, so she isn’t yet at school, and I was asking how many schools are actually incorporating (rugby).
“Rugby is so accessible, Louis is playing touch rugby and it’s such a great game.
“Actually, they shouldn’t necessarily need to push boys and girls in particular sports too early.
“Obviously as they get physically stronger – George now, if we play at home, I do not want to get tackled by George – but, up to a certain age, I think it’s great.”
