Netflix fans slam Little House on the Prairie trailer as ‘nothing like the original’

Netflix’s upcoming reimagining of classic TV drama Little House on the Prairie has released its first trailer, leaving viewers divided

A new trailer for Netflix’s forthcoming reimagining of Little House on the Prairie has already left subscribers reaching for the tissues, but others have expressed disappointment. Based on the internationally cherished bestselling and semi-autobiographical books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the sweeping period drama chronicles the adventures and tribulations of the Ingalls family during the 1800s.

After establishing themselves on a prairie in the American West, Charles (portrayed by Luke Bracey) and Caroline (Crosby Fitzgerald), along with their two daughters Laura (Alice Halsey) and Mary (Skywalker Hughes), must learn to adjust to their unforgiving surroundings to secure their family’s future. The books were published during the 1930s and initially adapted into a long-running Western drama series which aired throughout the 1970s and 80s. Now, decades on, a new generation will have the opportunity to experience the Ingalls’ legendary story of hardship and perseverance

A new trailer unveiled by Netflix has provided viewers with their first proper look at the main cast. When the Ingalls family journey westward for a new beginning, they discover their seemingly perfect new homestead is far more perilous than they had imagined.

With assistance from their tight-knit town community, the family forges a new existence amid the upheaval of 19th Century American life, confronting dangers from wolves, illnesses, and the Native Americans whose territory the settlers have claimed as their own.

The trailer suggests that this reimagining of Wilder’s cherished books will be brimming with heartfelt emotion and compelling drama, alongside pulse-racing action sequences certain to captivate contemporary audiences.

Fans are already feeling overwhelmed with nostalgia after watching the trailer, with one YouTube user commenting: “Making me teary-eyed.”

“My childhood restored. This is going to be epic,” another viewer predicted.

“THIS LOOKS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!” one enthusiastic fan exclaimed. “They made it their own. I loved the original and I may love this one just as much. It’s got its own vibe and I like that.”

Nevertheless, the reboot has also attracted considerable criticism from devotees of the original series, who are displeased with Netflix’s fresh interpretation, particularly its darker tone and deviations from the beloved classic and its source material.

One X user fumed: “I’m so aggravated!!! Netflix redone Little House on the Prairie!!! and from the trailer, it is clearly not like the original! Nobody is gonna be able to remake that.. it is beloved! They could’ve named it something else and I would’ve been fine watching it. They did not! #LHOTP.”

While another vented: “Why can’t they make just a new series? Why does it have to be “Little House on the Prairie”?

“There are probably hundreds of stories from the frontier they could tell. I am tired of all these remakes. Write new stories!”
