The mother of missing Melbourne schoolgirl Bung Siriboon is battling cancer, it’s been revealed, in another cruel blow for the family.
Vannida, also known as Nid, was diagnosed with primary central nervous system lymphoma in May 2024 and has undergone multiple rounds of treatment.
However according to close family friend Dyamai Hillard, Nid is now in palliative care and the family is under immense financial pressure.
“During this time, Fred (Bung’s stepfather) also lost his mother and niece and has done everything he can to try to get themselves out of the financial mess they are in,” Hillard said in a GoFundMe set up for the family.
“It’s gotten too heavy, and the bills are piling up. Fred hasn’t asked me to do this, but he shared with me that he is in financial crisis.
“With your help, he can start to plan Nid’s funeral, then tackle the mortgage that’s on hold and the personal loans they’ve had to take just to survive this far.”

According to Hillard, Nid has been living in Thailand while Fred has remained in Australia to work.
The heartbreaking health update is just another blow for the family who still remain clueless about what happened to 13-year-old Siriyakorn, also known as Bung, 15 years ago.
The teenager vanished while walking to school in Melbourne’s East on June 2, 2011.

Bung left her family home on Elsie St in Boronia about 8.25am and was seen not long after walking towards Albert Ave.
The teenager never arrived at school and did not come home later. She has not been seen or heard from since.
A $1 million reward remains for any information about what happened to the teenager.
