Virgin River fans were left complaining after the seventh series of the Netflix show soared up the charts despite its ‘cruel’ cliffhanger ending.
The show, which launched in 2019, has followed main character Mel, played by Alexandra Breckenridge, through her husband’s death to moving to a rural town, and falling in love with Jack Sheridan, played by Martin Henderson.
The latest instalment of the romantic drama series dropped on the streaming giant last week, with viewers rushing to find out if protagonists Mel and Jack were able to fulfil their dream of adopting a baby.

It rocketed to the number-one spot on Netflix’s coveted top ten in the days following its release, overtaking big-hitter programmes including Morgan Freeman-narrated The Dinosaurs and the fourth season of Bridgerton.
The new series also followed the blossoming romance of Dan Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) and Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen), after five years of will-they won’t-they.
However, viewers have been clear they weren’t happy with the way the series came to an end, taking to social media to complain about the cliffhanger scene.

It saw Brady getting into a major motorbike accident, with his fate left hanging in the balance and his relationship with Brie potentially torn apart already.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to hit back at the episode, one fan wrote: ‘The Virgin River writers actually hate happiness… don’t p**s me off everything better be okay in season 8.’
Another chimed in: ‘I just finished season 7 of Virgin River and I’m convinced the writers hate Brady,’ as another chimed in: ‘Virgin River writers just had to do something to not make things perfect.’
‘Why do they keep ending Virgin River like this, I’m irritated,’ someone else wrote, as a fourth penned: ‘Oh my god the Virgin River writers are just EVIL.
‘The writers for Virgin River has to be depressed af! Like why can’t these people be happy?! It’s literally a psychological drama now,’ another added.
While one viewer concluded: ‘I SWEAR IF VIRGIN RIVER KILLS BRADY I’LL LOSE IT. He deserves to be happy.’
It comes after a new must-watch romantic drama series has rocketed up the Netflix charts – leaving viewers raving thanks to its Virgin River-style action.
The Canadian TV show, which is already in its third season and made its debut in 2023 on CW, was dropped in full to the streaming service earlier this week.

The drama series has followed the romance of Mel and Jack since 2019
Fans are already tuning in to binge watch all the episodes, which star the likes of Gilmore Girls’ Scott Patterson and When Hope Call’s Morgan Kohan.
It follows talented neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan as she returns to her hometown of Nova Scotia from Boston, USA, to reunite with her estranged father, Sully.
While Maggie is busy readjusting to the pace of life at home, she meets newcomer Cal, a local handyman, and a romantic connection begins to blossom.
As their feelings become harder and harder to ignore, Maggie must decide what to do, given she is already very much in love with boyfriend Andrew.
Created by Roma Roth and adapted from Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name, the three series have delved into the twisting love story.
And just days after its release, viewers have already been heaping praise on the series, telling other Netflix users it’s a ‘must watch’ after being left emotional from binge-watching the entire show.
‘The cast delivers authentic and compelling performances,’ one wrote on a reviews site. ‘It’s emotionally rich and beautifully crafted drama.’
Another chimed in: ‘Sullivan’s Crossing has me crying like a BABY,’ while a third agreed: ‘Sullivan’s Crossing on Netflix has me in a chokehold.’
‘So what if I watched the first two seasons of Sullivan’s Crossing in a few days?’ a fourth joked as they revealed they’d nearly finished all the episodes.
As a fifth concluded: ‘I finished in a matter of days and now want Season 4!’
Author Robyn is also the author of Virgin River, another Netflix hit series that ran for six series from 2019, with two more seasons confirmed to be in the works.
Earlier this year, Netflix fans admitted they ‘stayed up all night’ to watch the ‘utterly mesmerising’ romcom that they have dubbed ‘the best comfort TV you can stream.’
