Defense in "DJ Warras" murder case believes there is no case against their client

The state intends to use a statement allegedly obtained from a woman they arrested and released when it opposes the bail of the man accused of having a role in the murder of Warrick Stock.

Victor Majola was arrested in December and charged with the premeditated murder of Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras.

The media personality was gunned down in the Johannesburg CBD in December in what is believed to have been a hit linked to work his security company was doing with highjacked buildings.

The state initially arrested three people, later releasing two, with only Majola charged in the murder case.

Majola briefly appeared in the Johannesburg magistrate’s court on Tuesday, where his bail application was postponed to next week.

Speaking to the media following his appearance, Majola’s attorney, Dumisani Mabunda, alleged the state intends to use the unidentified woman’s statement to oppose his client’s bail.

“The lady against whom the charges were withdrawn is alleged to have made a statement. That is the statement which the police want to use to link the accused to this particular crime. However, that particular lady denied, in front of the police, in my presence, that she made that particular statement.”

He claims the state lacks evidence linking his client to the crime.

“As far as we are concerned, as of today, that is the only linkage that the state has against the accused. Except for that, there is no other evidence whatsoever linking this accused to this particular crime,” he added.

Mabunda says Majola has no previous convictions or pending cases and remains positive about his bail application next week.
