A ‘must-watch’ crime thriller series has rocketed up the Netflix charts as fans admit to binge-watching all the episodes just days after its release.

New show The Asset first hit screens earlier this week, after an immense build up for the tense series that was first teased in an trailer in early October.

The Danish language series, which is spread across six episodes, takes a deep dive into the webs of deception behind-the-scenes at Denmark’s Security and Intelligence Service.

Leading lady Clara Dessau plays police recruit Tea, who is asked to give up her day job in order to train to become an undercover operative.

Her secret goal is to become a close friend of Marie Corsden’s Ashley, the wife of one of the cities’ most prominent drug dealers, to gather intel.

Creating a new identity for herself, Tea transforms into local jeweller Sara in order to help her infiltrate the vast criminal network that has so far outrun the police force.

She’s soon growing close to Ashley thanks to her new identity, and quickly is up to speed with the harsh realities for Ashley, who lives under her husband’s thumb.

The daily pressure of the lifestyle is clearly taking its toll on Ashley and, as Tea begins to fully immerse herself in her new identity, starts to question where her loyalties lie.

Ahead of the series’ release, The Asset’s director and co-writer Samanou Achehe Sahlstrøm praised the drama for exploring what can happen to ‘identity and loyalty under extreme pressure’.

He told Tudum: ‘Through Tea’s journey, we see how far someone is willing to go to do what they believe is right – also when the lines between good and evil become blurred.

‘I have always wanted to work on a crime series that puts its characters, their development, and their relations to each other at the very centre of the story.

‘This is precisely what The Asset does.’

While it’s only been out for a matter of days, the drama has already shot to the top of the Netflix charts, and received a healthy 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Penning a review of the drama, one viewer described the series as an ‘intense, delicately produced crime drama’, while a second agreed it was a ‘gripping dive into espionage’.

It comes after a ‘heartbreaking’ crime thriller rocketed up the charts on Netflix.

The release, a twisting tale based on the real-life history of a family of serial killers from the 1960s, has earned itself a perfect 100% approval rate on reviews site Rotten Tomatoes.

The Dead Girls, which was released last month, soon hit the top ten of the global charts upon launching thanks to its fast-growing popularity around the world.

The limited series is based on a book by Jorge Ibargüengoitia, which follows the investigation into the deaths of six young prostitutes, buried in behind a small-town brothel.

In this re-telling, the action is based on the Baladro sisters, who build a brothel empire and become merciless killers in the process.

It stars the likes of Narcos actress Paulina Gaitan in the role of leading lady Serafina Baladro, and Arcelia Ramírez as her sister, Arcangela.

Narcos Mexico actor Joaquín Cosio and Death’s Roulette’s Juan Carlos Remolina also feature in the episodes.

The Asset is available to stream on Netflix now.
