MasterChef Romance Rumors Explode as Fans Spot “Hidden Clues” in New Behind-the-Scenes Photos
We love MasterChef because it’s one of the very few wholesome reality TV shows in Australia. Now, fans are quite simply losing their minds over the prospect of a “secret romance” bubbling to the surface between two of this season’s contestants.
All eyes are currently on Alyona and Petro, with viewers believing the pair are more than friends after some telling clues, including comments from another contestant and a rather lingering hug between them.
While there’s been no confirmation from either contestant (or any others, for that matter) on whether the romance is real or not, it hasn’t stopped WHO from reaching out to Alyona following her elimination this week for comment — stay tuned for updates — or fans from looking for every possible piece of evidence.
And, surprise, surprise, some internet sleuthing has done wonders.

Quick recap: Where did the romance rumours come from?
Contestant Annabel Lloyd sparked rumours of a potential budding romance earlier in the season when former contestants Declan Cleary and Sarah Todd appeared as guest judges on the show.
The pair met while they were both competing on season 17 and have since welcomed twin girls, Claudia and Charlotte, late last year.
“This is wild that they both were on Back to Win and met and fell in love and have twins. Like that is the cutest thing, that’s the most beautiful story I’ve ever heard in my life,” Annabel said.
“Is there anyone in our comp that could be future Sarah and Declan? I’m not allowed to say.”
This quickly led fans to believe that there was a romance between Annabel and Vinnie. However, that was discredited by a contestant (who told WHO they wished to remain anonymous).
It’s also believed that Vinnie has a long-term girlfriend.
When those rumours were debunked, fans quickly starting suspecting Alyona and Petro for two reasons.
Firstly, during the episode on July 7, the pair went head-to-head in an elimination challenge and were tasked to cook a dessert inspired by their flavour of Connoisseur ice cream.
In the end, Alyona’s dessert missed the mark, and she was sent home and shared a hug with Petro.
And while hugs aren’t uncommon between contestants in the MasterChef kitchen, something about their embrace stopped fans in their tracks, with many thinking the same thing — are they an item?
Annabel further fanned the flames by sharing a photo of her later with Petro and captioned it: “1 like and I’ll drop my tell-all on the secret MasterChef romances”.
With fans desperate to uncover the truth, the investigations for further evidence have intensified, leading us to where we are now.
Fans point to ‘new’ evidence on MasterChef romance
After behind-the-scenes photos of contestants surfaced on Reddit, fans are more convinced than ever that the Alyona-Petro romance rumours are real.

Despite the photos initially being shared by contestants weeks ago, there’s nothing like the suspicion of a reality TV romance to shed new light on some otherwise innocuous snaps.
In one photo, Alyona can be seen with her arm draped over Petro’s shoulder, and in several others taken on different occasions, they appear to be sitting near one another.
“Alyona and Petro!” one fan excitedly pointed out, while another dropped a ‘side-eye’ emoji, often used when a person is suspicious of something.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, but here at WHO we’re waiting patiently for the official confirmation (or denial!).
