Meghan Markle made headlines across the world yesterday when it was revealed that she was set to make a surprise TV appearance on one of Australia’s biggest shows. The Duchess of Sussex, who is currently in Australia with her husband Prince Harry, has been confirmed to be a guest judge on the upcoming series of MasterChef Australia.

It is believed she filmed her surprise appearance on the show this week, with the news confirmed by the TV channel yesterday. As well as confirming the news, Masterchef also released a video showing the moment she was welcomed onto the show.

However, Judge Poh Ling Yeow introduced Meghan as “Meghan Markle”, a name which many know her by, but which Meghan herself insisted on her own Netflix show last year to friend Mindy Kaling was no longer her name, instead preferring to be known as “Meghan Sussex”.

Judge Poh Ling Yeow said in her introduction of Meghan: “We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before, but nothing like this.

“All the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia…the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle!”

Meghan did not react in the clip to being called Markle, despite insisting to Mindy Kaling on “With Love, Meghan” that Sussex was her surname now.

It is believed she prefers the surname Sussex as it is a name she can share with her husband Prince Harry, based on his dukedom, and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

While some Masterchef fans picked up on the fact Meghan was called “Markle” on the Masterchef introduction, others were more concerned about airing their opinions, with many claiming they would no longer watch the show.

One person wrote on Instagram: “Noooooo I’m going to pass this episode.”

Another said: “Well that’s an episode that I will skip.”

Not all the reaction was negative, with Meghan’s fans quick to flock to social media to share their excitement.

One fan wrote on Instagram: “I’ll be watching to see her guest judge, loved her Netflix series!!”

Another said: “Will definitely be watching.”
