A young man has died after being struck by a garbage truck in Sydney‘s west just hours after he spoke with police.
Emergency services were called to a restaurant carpark on Luxford Road in Mount Druitt shortly after 2am on Thursday following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.
It is understood the Cleanaway truck was collecting waste when the man, 21, was struck.
He died at the scene, despite the efforts of emergency responders to revive him.
The man is yet to be formally identified.
Harrowing photos from the scene showed the his body covered with a white sheet as forensic officers examined the carpark.
Police have since revealed that he had attended Mount Druitt Police Station twice earlier in the evening, where he had interacted with officers.
A critical investigation into the circumstances of the incident is now underway.

The garbage truck driver, a 31-year-old man, was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
The investigation will be independently reviewed by the Professional Standards Command, with oversight from the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
